Tattoo styles in Karlsruhe Which style are you?
Blackwork, ornamental, ignorant style, lettering or a completely custom design: here I explain what defines each style, what it's suited for and how I approach it.
In short
Most requests I get start with a feeling, not a technical term: “something black and bold”, “something delicate on the forearm”, “a word that matters to me”. The styles below are my tools for that. They can be combined, and in the end what counts is that the design suits you and your body part.
Style 01
Blackwork
tattoo
Blackwork lives on contrast: rich, solid black areas, clean edges and shapes that are readable from two metres away. Anything is possible, from graphic single pieces to abstract brushstroke shapes all the way to full coverage (blackout).
Black ages well when the areas are properly saturated and the design flows with the muscles instead of against them. That's why I draw blackwork specifically for your body part: upper arm, forearm, hip or back each call for different shapes.
- Typical placements: Forearm, upper arm, calf, hip, back.
- Good to know: Large areas take time and are often done over several sessions.
Style 02
Ornamental
tattoo
Ornamental tattoos follow your anatomy: symmetrical ornaments, sharply tapering lines, floral vines or tracery shapes that wrap around the forearm, shoulders or spine. I do much of this in fine lines, sometimes with dotwork shading, sometimes bold in black.
The appeal lies in the fit. An ornament that looks good on paper only really works on the body when it picks up the movement of that area. That's why every ornament is drawn individually for you and your body part.
- Typical placements: Back, shoulders, forearm, neck, sternum.
- Good to know: Fine lines need a little more size so they stay crisp over the years.
Style 03
Ignorant style
tattoo
Ignorant style is deliberately naive: simple lines, direct motifs, often with a wink. Flowers in a vase, little figures, everyday things, drawn as if they'd been doodled on paper with a ballpoint pen. That's exactly what makes them so charming.
The art is that they're still tattooed cleanly: crisp lines, even saturation, good placement. Ignorant tattoos work just as well small and on their own as they do as a collection spread across the arm. In Karlsruhe, ignorant style is still a niche – which is exactly why I enjoy tattooing it so much.
- Typical placements: Forearm, thigh, calf, small gaps between other tattoos.
- Good to know: Ideal for shorter sessions or as an addition to existing pieces.
Style 04
Lettering
tattoo
For me, lettering means script that's drawn by hand, not taken from a font library. Gothic calligraphy, sharp metal letters with shading or classic blackletter. A word, a name, a sentence.
Legibility over the years is what matters: letter spacing, line weight and size have to suit the body part, otherwise fine lines blur over time. That's why I design the lettering to fit the forearm, upper arm, neck or ribs.
- Typical placements: Forearm, upper arm, collarbone, ribs, neck.
- Good to know: Send me the word and the placement, and we'll find the script style together.

Custom
tattoos
Most designs come about exactly like this: you come with an idea, a feeling or a few reference pictures, and I turn it into a drawing that exists only once. Whether it's a fine line dragon, koi with an initial, a dotwork dragonfly or a Hannya mask with blossoms, the design is created for you and your body part.
The process is simple: a booking request via the form or Instagram DM, a quick chat about size, placement and price, then your appointment. You'll get an individual price estimate after your request.
- What helps: References, the body part, the approximate size and what the design means to you.
- Good to know: Fine line, black and grey and bold black can be combined in one design.
Your custom tattoo design is also created exclusively for you and tattooed only once. Together we'll develop a design that suits you and that nobody else will wear in identical form.
